Vintage prairie art in print: Works by Fritz & Waltraude Stehwien
“Just too good to stay hidden!” Thousands of works that capture bygone prairie vistas are begging to be seen. Not just for the great works they are, but for the precious moments and history they hold”
Fritz Stehwien was a lifelong artist, and walking into his very cluttered studio after his passing was like opening a gigantic family photo album: A life story illustrated by a man who never held a camera in his hand.
It’s the story of an immigrant artist family who struggled to survive through political unrest and World War II in Germany, to eventually settle in Saskatoon, in the heart of the beautiful Canadian prairies.
Stehwien Art is the venture by daughter Barbara, to share these works in print: Unique art puzzles, cards, books, and custom size wall art. Not only works by Fritz and wife Waltraude, but some by other family artists also. There are four generations of talent (so far), from puppeteer to goldsmith, photographer, and computer designer.
Studio tours to see or purchase originals are available by appointment.
